Quality But Affordable Furniture: Why Our Pricing Structure is Different (But Better)

quality but affordable furniture

Furniture stores are known (sometimes even infamously) for running frequent advertisements promising 40%, 50%, or even 70% off. At first glance, these so-called “unbeatable discounts” can make standard store prices and even smaller promotions seem underwhelming by comparison. As a custom furniture design store that focuses on keeping day-to-day prices manageable for customers, we are often asked when we do our “biggest sales,” and when customers can expect to get the best deals on our products. However, although we do run some sales throughout the year, customers will never see loud announcements boasting “enormous markdowns.” This is for a simple reason: our everyday pricing is already designed to be as low as possible.

Rather than inflating prices throughout the year so we can advertise dramatic markdowns later, at Room Concepts we focus on offering high-quality, customizable furniture at the best possible everyday price. That means the “discount” may not look as impressive on paper—but the value often ends up being much greater.

Here is a closer look at how our pricing philosophy works and why so many customers choose Room Concepts in Wexford and Pittsburgh South Hills for furniture that offers lasting quality without paying luxury showroom prices.

Room Concepts Furniture Pricing: A Quick Guide

When exploring furniture pricing, new shoppers are often curious about two main things:

  1. Is custom furniture always expensive?
  2. How do Room Concepts furniture prices compare to other stores?

At Room Concepts, we employ a meticulous manufacturer selection process and price our furniture carefully, allowing us to remain competitive while offering our customers excellent value. Unlike many standard furniture retailers, Room Concepts specializes in custom, made-to-order furniture built in North America, including products built by Amish craftsmen and other family-owned manufacturing businesses. Nearly every piece in our showroom and on our website can be customized to fit your home, from dimensions and configurations to wood species & stains, fabrics, and finishes.

While custom furniture is often associated with luxury pricing, our goal has always been different. Rather than adding large retail markups, we work hard to keep our pricing competitive from the very beginning. We intentionally operate with lean margins so customers can purchase furniture that’s built to last without paying inflated “designer showroom” prices.

Our mission at Room Concepts has always been simple: to provide the best quality furniture at the best possible price, in order to give the consumer the best value. This does not mean that our furniture will be the most inexpensive of all furniture options, but it does mean that the value will be better than what you might find at other stores. You’ll often find that comparable furniture at other retailers costs significantly more than what it costs in our showroom.

Our Pricing Guarantee

At Room Concepts, we are committed to carrying products at the lowest possible price. If you find the same manufacturer, model, and specifications being sold for less at another furniture retailer in Pittsburgh, simply bring us proof of the advertised price, and we will match it.

We do not feel the need to create loud advertisements with big numbers to get customers in the door. Not only does the value of our furniture speak for itself, but we also are able to guarantee that our customers are receiving the best price available on the furniture they have chosen every day, not just during promotional periods.

How Furniture Sales & Promotions Often Work at Big Box Stores

Furniture is one of the most promotion-heavy retail industries. Many retailers build marketing around large percentage discounts, holiday events, and frequent sales because the appearance of dramatic savings attracts shoppers and encourages urgency. Industry marketing guidance often recommends furniture stores utilize promotional pricing as a primary way to increase store traffic and sales.

While every retailer has its own pricing strategy, large advertised discounts frequently depend on having enough markup built into the original price to accommodate those promotions. This is why shoppers often notice that one weekend may feature a “40% Off Sale,” followed shortly by another “Storewide Blowout” with similar pricing. Although the percentage changes, the actual selling price may not change much, if at all.

At Room Concepts, we’ve chosen a different approach. We’d rather price furniture fairly every day than raise prices artificially just so we can advertise a larger markdown later.

Why We Don’t Offer “50% Off” Sales

Because our everyday prices are already kept low relative to comparable products, there simply isn’t room to advertise massive discounts. Instead of building large markups into our pricing, we keep our margins intentionally modest so customers receive strong value every day, regardless of the time of year they purchase.

We still run sales; however, our seasonal promotions more often fall within the range of 5–15% off savings (depending on what is made available by our manufacturers), rather than dramatic “half-off” events. However, instead, we can offer our customers the peace of mind of knowing that any time they are buying, whether “on” or “off season,” is the “right time to buy” at the prices we offer. We believe honesty and transparency creates better long-term relationships with our customers than inflated pricing ever could.

When Does Furniture “Go On Sale” at Room Concepts?

As mentioned above, we do still offer seasonal sales at Room Concepts. These promotions are done by our manufacturers themselves around holidays and special events, when the manufacturer allows us to buy furniture from them for 5-15% off their regular prices and we pass those savings on to our customers. Rather than creating artificial markdowns, our promotions reflect genuine opportunities to save even more on furniture that’s already competitively priced.

However, if you’re looking for the deepest discounts available, our clearance selection is another great option to explore. Clearance pieces are typically floor models or discontinued items offered at significant markdowns. In many cases, these prices are designed simply to make room for new inventory, not necessarily to generate profit – so there are plenty of bargains to be found! For shoppers who don’t mind purchasing a floor model, clearance can provide exceptional savings on the same high-quality furniture we carry throughout the store.

What You Get When You Shop at Room Concepts (Quality Furniture at a Fair Price)

Furniture is one of the largest purchases you’ll make for your home, which is why we believe value should be measured by more than the sale tag. When you shop at Room Concepts, you’re investing in furniture that’s built differently from much of what’s available in today’s furniture market.

When you browse our collections, you’ll find:

Instead of replacing inexpensive furniture every few years, many of our customers choose pieces they’ll enjoy for decades, ultimately getting much more out of their furniture than what was put into it. This is what we mean when we say we offer “the best possible quality at the best possible price, which creates the best value.”

Whether you’re furnishing a single room or designing your entire home, our experienced design team is here to help you find furniture that fits your space, your style, and your budget, without sacrificing craftsmanship or personalization.

If you’re looking for ethically sourced, customizable furniture in the Pittsburgh and North Hills area, we invite you to visit Room Concepts and experience a different approach to furniture shopping—one that is built on honest pricing, exceptional quality, and personalized service from start to finish.
