Room Concepts: How It All Began

Room Concepts Furniture has been providing the Pittsburgh area with high quality, custom made furniture for over 65 years. Currently, Pittsburgh-born brothers, Nathan and Justin Adam, are the third generation to own and operate the family’s business, A&D Furniture Company. However, the brothers’ great grandfather started the family in the furniture business back in 1928 making Nathan and Justin actually fourth generation in the furniture industry. A&D Furniture Company wasn’t officially incorporated until 1952.

The Name Changed, but the Quality Remained

In the 1970s, the name was changed from A&D Furniture Company to Dinette Korner, shifting to a sole focus on dining furniture.  Back then most people had 2 dining sets in their home and some even had a third in their basement for cards/games.  Interior re-construction and design continued to change throughout the decades with homeowners knocking down walls and building houses without dedicated formal dining rooms. The company evolved with these changes and officially became Room Concepts Furniture in 1998. With that name-change, the business went back to offering furnishings for the entire home. Nathan joined the company in 2002. In 2016, brother, Justin, also joined the team as their father retired from running the business. They continue to carry the torch of their great grandfather’s mission.

A Timeless Mission

The mission at Room Concepts is simple and its key characteristics remain the same as it was in 1928. We want to provide the best quality furniture at the best possible price, giving the consumer the best value. We accomplish this by selling mostly North American made furniture that is solid wood with no mdf, pressed wood, or particle board. We do not claim to have the most inexpensive furniture. There are always going to be stores that sell cheaper particle boards and veneers from overseas. Nonetheless, we make quality and customization affordable.

No Handcuffs Here

A unique asset of Room Concepts is what we call “handcuff-free buying.” This means you can customize your furniture to be the way you want it without settling for a cookie-cutter showroom display. We offer pieces that can be made in different sizes, species of wood, colors, stains, and fabrics. Most of this can be done with little or no up charge. Many times, consumers feel they must settle for a stock furniture piece, but this is not the case at Room Concepts Furniture.

Customer Service is Key

The attention we give to customer service is what has allowed our local, family-owned business to thrive for over half a century. Our team is knowledgeable, not pushy. We take the time to understand our clients and find the furniture that best meets their needs. We have products for almost any budget and stage of life. We promise to never sell you more than what you need or deceive you with gimmicks or false promises. We never raise our prices so that we can lower them later for the “World’s Greatest Sale.” We offer our customers the best possible prices every single day.
