Decorating for the Holidays
The holidays are upon us which can often be a stressful and busy time of the year. Don’t let decorating and room staging contribute towards your stress. We have some helpful tips to get you through the holidays in style!
Setting Your Table for a Holiday Meal
- First and foremost, clear off and clean your table.
- Depending on the holiday for which you’re hosting, use a fall or winter-themed table cover. Or use a solid color tablecloth with a festive table runner in the middle.
- Ensure that your centerpiece allows for good conversation and eye contact.
- Layer your place settings. Use place cards, fancy napkins that match your décor, and a fun hosting favor that your family and friends can take home with them.
- Don’t have a kitchen or dining room table, come see us! Every piece of our furniture can be customized to fit your specific style and preference. You can even change the dimensions of many of our products to fit your room. Isn’t that the way it should be?
Fragrant Décor
Oftentimes, we get so involved with the holiday décor that we forget about how our room(s) smells. While this may not seem as important, it can completely enhance your room.
- Use festive bath and kitchen soaps as well as matching lotions. This will leave your guests feeling clean with subtle reminders of the holiday you’re celebrating.
- Holiday hand towels are an inexpensive way to enhance your bath and kitchen space. Just be sure they are washed so they are smelling fresh for your company.
- Candles, wax scent warmers, and bouquets made of herbs or pine are all great ways to enhance the fragrance in your space.
- And of course, the food you are preparing will be a large part of your aroma. Sometimes, that’s all you need for your event!
Decorating a Room Once the Tree is Up
- Take an inventory of your furniture and choose the room(s) for your tree(s). Yes, trees is plural. We know some of you LOVE having multiple trees and decorating them in different themes—so, choose the best room for your tree and its theme. In the room(s) you select, review the furniture and note what pieces can be removed during the holiday season. It’s very important to visualize and then create walkways in your room so there are no obstructions caused by your tree. The tree height is also very important. Rooms with taller ceilings are great spaces for 9ft + tall trees.
- Make your tree the focal point of the room but make sure it’s not obstructive. You’ll want to keep your tree out of walkways, away from fireplaces, and make sure it’s not blocking a TV. Put it in a spot where it catches your eye and can be admired from various vantage points.
- Reuse the furniture you removed. Remember that furniture you moved out of the space to make room for your tree? You don’t have to put it in storage! Find other parts of the house where that piece of furniture can function. Perhaps you had to move the ottoman. Consider moving it into your office or the dining room. Cover it with a festive throw blanket and let it provide an added layer of holiday spirit in your home.
