Picture Hanging: 3 Tips to Consider
Hanging a picture is easy. All that you have to do is find a spot, grab a nail and hammer and get to work, right?
Not so fast.
There’s more to hanging a picture than that. Check out our three helpful picture-hanging tips to learn more!
Find your mark
Making sure that everything measures up will ensure that your picture will hang perfectly.
To get started, find a place on the wall where you want to hang your picture. Once you’ve picked your spot, draw a very faint line with a pencil along the center of the frame’s top edge.
This mark will serve as your reference point.
From there, you can go back to that mark and hang your picture. Once the frame is on the wall, grab a level and rest it along the top of the frame. Adjust accordingly until the air bubble is in the center of the tube.
Pick the right height and location
The general rule of thumb when it comes to hanging pictures is that the bottom half of the frame should be at eye level.
To that point, when picking a spot for your picture, make sure that it’s in proportion to the wall you’re choosing.
For instance, you won’t want to put a small picture on a large wall just as you wouldn’t want to hang a large picture on a small wall.
You want to give the picture just enough room so that it doesn’t feel cramped or get lost on a big wall.
Now, there’s no exact science to this so use your best judgement when picking the perfect spot for your favorite picture.
However, when hanging a picture over a piece of furniture, you’ll want to leave about five to nine inches of space between the bottom of the frame and the top of your furniture.
Hanging Heavy Pictures
Two words: wall anchors.
These will be your best friend when hanging heavy pictures on your walls. If you’re unfamiliar, wall anchors are the metal or plastic inserts that provide support on an unreinforced wall.
If you haven’t located a stud to hang your picture, always use wall anchors to provide a level of stability.
